SSI Back Pay Installments

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Does anybody know whether that SSI back pay comes on a certain day of the month? I got my first installment the same week I was approved for SSI it came on the same day I got my first benefit. But I should receive one in January and I'm trying to figure out when I will see it? If anyone has any experience with receiving them in would love to hear about it!

Hi Stephen,

It should come in 3 installments, each 6 months apart. You can contact the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 if you are looking for expedited back pay.

So if you are eligible for SSI payments and receive your back pay for certain months, then are told that your resources are over the $2000 limit and lose your benefits, if you go under the $2000 resource limit are you eligible again or is it a final decision

Hi,

You are able to re-apply for benefits. If you work closely with the SSA, there are also ways that you are able to maintain your benefits even if the back pay would put you over the limit.

Hi Gary,

You should receive your first installment about 4 months after you begin receiving benefits. The other installments will then come about 6 months apart.
