SSI and Social Security

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

My boyfriend and I are both disabled and we both get social security disability . But he gets Supplemental Security Income and food stamp money from the food stamp program . My question is how does that affect are chances of getting married someday . We are concerned about how that would affect the benefits we both receive .

Hi there,
If you're receiving income-based benefits, your benefits may change as SSI has different benefit limits for unmarried and married beneficiaries.

I use to receive SSI because I am disabled and not able to work . I was told I couldn't receive both Social Security Disability on my late fathers work record and SSI at the same time . I am getting survivor benefits from my late fathers work record as a disabled adult child . But my boyfriend is receiving social security on his mother's work record as a Disabled adult child plus receiving SSI because he is unable to work .

My disabled son was receiving a regular monthly SSI benefit. He recently also became eligible for SSDI based on my recently retired wife's earnings record.My question is this: Will his receipt of SSDI be in addition to his regular SSI monthly benefit or will one offset the other?

Hi Frank,
The SSDI benefits would offset the SSI benefits, if your son's SSDI benefit is less than $735 a month the SSI benefit would be provided, up to that $735 amount.

i worked for okaloosa county for 17 years building bridges as a crane operator and all other equipment for the county. I had to be out of work all the time for doctors appointments. I hurt so bad I had to resizned. i really need help.. please
