Hi Nicholas,

Generally the payee is changed for your next pay period. If possible, try to bring your current payee to the appointment. This will help the process go smoothly.

Hi Gina,

If you and your father go to your local SSA office, you should be able to get your payee switched to your father. Make sure he as his Social Security card and another form of a picture ID. You should also make an appointment before you go.

I was the payee for my husband. We have since separated. I received a check for him in his account. I am wondering how I send it back and how long I have to do it?

Hi Kristina,

You should make an appointment at your local SSA office, and you should be able to get your husbands payee switched to the new payee.

I am my brothers payee. He is now able to take care of it himself. I want to be removed as payee. Do I need to go to SS office to get it changed?

Hi Wendy,

You are able to change the payee by going to your local SSA office. I recommend making an appointment and then explain the whole situation to them.

Hi Tamikal,

You and your son's father will need to go to an SSA office to do that. You're son's father will need a photo ID and his Social Security card.

Hi Ashley,

You are able to change the payee with an appointment at your local SSA office. A court order is not mandatory and the process is easiest if all parties are in agreement and present at the meeting. For more information, I would give them a call.

Hi There,

The SSA can appoint someone for you. You can make an appointment with your local SSA office by calling 1-800-772-1213 to discuss getting one assigned for you.
