Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)

SSDI and what are chances they can make you return to work?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Hello, I am currently receiving SSDI for a medical condition, I do not think I will be able to return to work, let alone in the position I used to have. I think mine is set to review every 5 years maybe? I am still technically with my company as an inactive employee, (I am a aircraft mech for a major airline)....so I was wondering a few things:

Can I adopt/have kids in NJ if I receive SSDI?

I am young, mobile and married. My spouse is employed 40hrs FT. I was confirmed as unable to work due to PTSD by family abuse, and ADHD. My spouse helps me with the activities of daily life which I struggle with (personal hygiene, meal prep, shopping, cleaning the house, etc) whenever he's not at work. We have a small dog (lab) we both take care of, and I think we have enough income & room for addition to the family.

Approved For SSDI - A few questions

In 2011 my husband was in military and applied for ssdi. It was expedited due to military status and the claim was denied and we did not appeal decision. In Feb. 2015, he applied again. We spoke with a local SSA rep yesterday and she said they had gotten claim back from quality assurance in NY and claimed closed he was approved for the ssdi. She said there was a mistake that had to be corrected and it would be going to payment processing. The mistake being he should not have been denied in 2011 so the onset date needed to be changed accordingly.

Got Disability Benefits after a 6 year wait. Where do I turn for good information and advice I can trust? I just got my first SSDI monthly check and some SSI back payment. I am told I will get a large SSDI back payment check and have lots of questions about benefits, getting past bills paid, how far back to pay my medicare subscriptions to start coverage, medicare and on and on. Does anyone know a good advocacy group or information resource that I can trust or just a very good message board to ask these questions on?

How can kids qualify for SSI?

Our baby was just born with down syndrome, hurray for us. I have quit my job so that I can stay home to take care of him and our 2 year old (daycare here in the suburbs of Los Angeles for 2 kids is $2300 a month, so at that point, there IS no point in working). My wife is going to keep working, and I'm going to watch the kids till they are in school.
