Lawrence Disability Hearings
The disability hearing presents the best opportunity for you to have your claim approved. All Lawrence residents will have to travel to Topeka for their hearing. Currently, the wait time at the Topeka office to have a hearing scheduled is 333 days. This is due to the fact that there are 2,423 claimants still waiting for a hearing with the Topeka office.
From October 2012 to January 2013, the Topeka hearing office:
- Had a total of 837 hearings scheduled. 80.5% of those claimants have already received a decision on their claims.
- Had 5 judges who were responsible for the hearings and they were able to resolve about 12 hearings per day combined.
- Only had 46% of the hearings in-person. The rest of hearings were held through video conferencing, because the claimant was unable to make it in person.
Don’t be discouraged if you do not know what to expect at the hearing. Your disability attorney will argue your case for you.
In extreme circumstances, the SSA will schedule a hearing sooner than the 333 days. You will have to request that your congressman put in a congressional inquiry into your claim in order to have your hearing scheduled sooner.
