You can go through the entire application process by yourself without any assistance. However, hiring an El Paso disability attorney who is familiar with the application process can certainly increase your chances of being approved for benefits. Your attorney will represent you throughout the application and even appeals process, if your claim is denied. In addition, these attorneys’ work on a contingency basis and are not paid unless you are successfully awarded benefits.

El Paso Disability Hearings
Unfortunately, most claimants will have to attend a disability hearing in order to be approved for benefits. The disability hearing is the 3rd step in the application. You will have to attend a disability hearing if you are denied at both the initial and reconsideration stages. During the disability hearing, you will have the opportunity to explain to an administrative law judge (ALJ) why you need government assistance. If you have not already done so, you should hire an El Paso social security lawyer before attending the hearing.
All El Paso residents will have to travel to Albuquerque for their disability hearings. Since Albuquerque is more than 250 miles away from El Paso, the SSA will reimburse any cost that arises from travelling to the hearing.
The SSA has a heavy backlog of cases across the country. As a result, it can take almost a year to have a hearing scheduled with the Albuquerque office. You can contact your local congressman to see if having the hearing scheduled sooner is a possibility. However, keep in mind that this request is only granted in very circumstances. The office address for the congressman for the El Paso area is:
Suite 210, 303 N Oregon St
El Paso, TX 79901
Phone: (915) 541-1400
