How many hours are you allowed to work if on disability

I am on reduced work hours and fill out the form with my hours that I work every two week. How are these hours verified? My employer has only received the initial form asking how many hours I worked prior to my disability. Is there no verification?

So I'm on ssdi and have been for 3 years and working a pt seasonal job doing taxes l. This year I happened to do a lot of tax returns and I'm getting a bonus!! A one time bonus in may for $2700.00. My said is already reduced because of workers comp offset. Does this bonus need to be reported ? And how will it affect my ssdi ???

HI Dan,
I would report these earnings to the SSA, they may not affect your monthly amount but it may cause the month that you received it to be considered a successful trial work month.

How do I find out what my disability is because social security will not tell me or give me any paperwork?

Under SSDI you can work up to or less then 80 hours a month. or make less less then $840 without starting your twp. Your twp last 9 months. You can earn any amount during that period and its not consecutive it counts for a period of 5 years. However, after the 9 months you start your extended work period were you can only make $1170 before losing your SSDI. This is the 2017 SGA Limit. If you go over the limit for a month you lose it for that month. You should be able to get your ssdi back for the months you lose it as long as it is within the 36 month period. and you can get restatement if it is within 5 years. However if your employer say you can work as well as anyone else you could be considered not disabled and lose it no matter how much you make or what your physical condition is. From my understanding after the 9 month period they can try to kick you off to justify you not having a disability regardless of how much you are making. Best bet make less then $840 and work less then 20 hours a week. Because making $840 or higher or working 80 hours a week starts your twp avoid that.

For all those wondering about SGA limits. Read the redbook 2017 version. I would stay below the trial work period amount of $840 so it doesn't activate your extended period. Also if your doing anything that is considered self employed like tutoring, freelancing or contacting, work less then 20 hour a week so you don't start your twp for self employment or anything considerd freelancing if you work more the 80 hours a month it counts as twp work month as well regardless of if you earn $840 or more. For people like me I have to work online doing freelance work sometimes, so thats why I mention this. Work hours matter too. I would just stay under 20 hours a week to play it safe.
