How many hours are you allowed to work if on disability

Bryan,
I previously asked you:What happens to your SSI or SSDI if you work seasonally say 8 months out of the year $1800/month?
You answer was:
may become ineligible for benefits, as that may indicate that you are able to work, and both benefits are only intended for people who are unable to make a living without those benefits.

My reply is: then why do they say you can work according to (Substantial Gainful Activity) guidelines?

They say that the SGA (Substantial Gainful Activity) for blind people is $1950/month for 2017. That is approx. $23,400 per year. If you work seasonal, do they take the amount of money you earned for that year and divide it by 12 to get your average Substantial Gainful Activity amount?

Thanks Bryan

Hi Ragga,
The SSA defines SGA by month, they do not determine it by how much you make a year. So, if you make over SGA one month, you may be ineligible for benefits.

Hi Myra,
If you're on SSI and are working, it may be a good idea to contact the SSA regarding your work as soon as possible.

Bryan,
if you are a contractor 1099/self employed and Blind how do they determine your SGA amounts?

Thanks

Hi Ragga,
The SGA amounts do not change due to occupation, there are only two figures for SGA - $1,130 a month for people who are disabled but are sighted, and $1,950 for those who are considered blind by the SSA. Your SGA amounts are not determined on an individual level.

Hi there,
There is no definition of "part time" for the SSA, you just need to stay under the SSA's income limit for a trial work period, which is $840 a month.

HI Raju,
I'm not familiar with the CPP benefit, you may want to contact your local SSA office regarding this for more information.

Hi Andre,
You may not keep the whole of your benefits, the SSA reduces benefits one dollar for every two earned, so if you earn up to $733 a month you may have a reduction of up to $ 367 in your benefit check.
