Direct Deposit

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I currently receive SSI for my middle son, it comes to me in the form of a check. How do I get this to be direct deposit into my checking account?

Hi Walter,
Unfortunately, the SSA has not issued paper checks since 2011. You would need to contact the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 and inform them that you closed your direct deposit account.

Hi Janet,
Generally that depends on the financial instituition, I would ask your bank how long they hold funds before they clear.

Hi Jennifer,
We are not affiliated with the SSA. You may not have received your check for many reasons, it may be a good idea to contact the SSA and inquire as to why. You can call them at 1-800-772-1312

Hi Debra,
Processing times for banks can vary, so that may be why it isn't posted to your account at this time.

We are in process of switching banks. How long does it take for my SSDI to switch from one bank to another when I switch banks for Direct Deposits? If I change it now will it effect my deposite due to come in on June 8th?

Hi Marie,
I would notify the SSA as soon as possible, and I would not close your old account until you see that funds are being deposited in the new one.

Hi Brenda,
I'm not entirely sure, however I it may be a good idea to keep your prior bank account open until you see the funds deposit in your new account.

Hi Shae,
Depending on how the card works, you may not have those benefits deposited to it. I would contact the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 to let them know about the change in your banking status.
