Direct Deposit

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I currently receive SSI for my middle son, it comes to me in the form of a check. How do I get this to be direct deposit into my checking account?

Hi Jenn,
SSI benefits for children are calculated based off of the parent's income, so the sibling's money may not be counted for the purposes of benefits unless that money was counted as income or a resource.

Hi Rebecca,
It does take some time for the SSA to process changes in your information, I would contact them for a timeframe for how long you would need to wait for benefits to be deposited in your new account.

Hi Debra,
We would not be able to say as we are not affiliated with the SSA. I would contact them to find out, you can call them at 1-800-772-1213.

Hi Nicole,
Processing times may vary by bank, it may be a good idea to check with the SSA to find out what their processing times are.

Hi Pete,
It may take a bit of time for the money to show up as you are changing banks. I would contact the SSA about this, they may have not updated your banking info.

Hi Ernest,
As far as having payees assigned, I would get in touch with the SSA and let them know if any benefits your children are receiving are being misused. They can help by assigning a new payee for those benefits. Also, your son can also apply for SSI benefits as an individual, his income and resources would be used to calculate his benefits.
