Qualifying children

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)

I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?

Thanks for responding. I Also am aware that my son's father is receiving disability benefits from the va.he is at a 90% rating,is My son entitled too any benefits from the va

my grandaughter has Lupus she lives in Colorado with her who works a regular wage job
and my grandchild wants to be a normal teen but can't. because of the Lupus

can we get disability for her to help

Hi Abby,
If she's earning more than $1,120 per month, she will not be able to qualify for SSDI benefits. I would recommend that she stops working before applying.

i have legal guardianship of my niece whi is 11 years old. I am diabled and my two biological children receive benefits through me. can my niece receive those benefits as well?

Hi Julie,
If your child is still attending elementary or secondary school full time, she may qualify for survivor's benefits.

Hi jeronica,
Representative payees do not need to live with the children that they are payee for, so you may still be able to be their payee if you are still otherwise eligible to be their payee.

My son Is on rittalin for adha and is asmatic and uses astavent and budeflem pumps.he was evaluted by a occupational terapist currently goes to occupational classes once a week and the was also seen by a counselling psychologist. Can my son qualify for a dissability grand .I am not working

i had just found out that my children might have been able to collect from my ssdi i never knew they could now they are over 18 can i still apply for back pay for them

My daughter is deaf-blind, since birth, and gas half a heart (Charge Syndrome). My husband is recently started receiving VA disability check. Should SSI count his VA disability as income for my 10 year old daughters eligibility?

Hi Mo,
His VA disability could potentially affect your daughter, but it unlikely that she will become ineligible! This is because VA benefits are considered unearned income.
