my child recieves ssi for being diagnosed adhd. at the time he was not on medication, now that he is on medication does that increase the amount he receives?
I draw Social Security for a traumatic head injury after being hit by a car as a pedestrian. My current husband is on short term disability from his work due to chemical imbalances. I know he has to be bi-polar, maybe schizophrenic, believes the world is headed to an end. Does this affect the amount that I can collect since his income is significantly lowered? He pays for short term disability, is being treated, takes his medication diligently, but is at the point where he cannot manage money nor make decisions rationally. I am having to fight with MetLife even though I am following all their directives and have the first available appointment with the psychiatrist referred by his Primary Care Physician.
Is there any way to get monthly amount increaed to an amount that is a little more realistic such as being able to at least pay a persons rent? Not to mention food, utilities & transportation, insurance or emergencies??

You may want to contact the SSA if you feel that the amount that you are receiving does not match your income or work history, you can call them at 1-800-772-1213.
My gf is currently recieving ssi from state of CO. of 700$/mo. due to ESRD. However this past summer she developed complications thru an infection thru dialysis clinic, went septic due to endocarditis. She was in the hospital in ICU, and physical therapy following emergent open heart surgery to replace damaged mitral valve due to all these complications for over 3 months. Question is, since her condition has changed and worsened drastically - is she eligible for more ssi per month (bc of work history, she does not qualify for ssdi) does anyone know about any other reasons for increase in Ssi payments other than COLA? Thx

I'm sorry to hear about this - I wish you girlfriend a full and speedy recovery. However, I'm not sure that there is any increase simply due to medical conditions.

If you're receiving SSDI benefits based on your work record, then you may not be eligible for more money based on income.
