My husband was recently diagnosed with depression/anxiety. He can work but can easily get over whelmed and starts getting depressed. Can he qualify for disability?

Hi Michael,

That's a standard response from the SSA. It just means they are reviewing your case and you should be hearing from them in the near future. Best of luck!

Hi There,

I am so sorry to hear that. You could be able qualify for disability benefits, though for conditions like that is a little tough to get approved. Just make sure that you have all of your medical records in order and have a note from your primary care regarding your condition.

I have had severe depression, anxiety, ptsd, bipolar, and insomnia since I was 14, I am now 30. I have been denied twice already. I did fill out an evaluation questioner. My question is, if an attorney does help me get approved will they go all the way back to when I was first diagnosed?

Hi Tabi,

Scoliosis is found under Blue Book listing 1.04 Disorders of the Spine. You can review the listing with your doctor to see if you medically qualify. Best of luck.

Hi Kelly,

You can review the SSA's Blue Book to see if your conditions meet the guidelines listed (ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/12.00-MentalDisorders-Adult.htm). You'll also have to either meet the income requirements for SSI or the work credit requirements for SSDI.

I been seeing psychiatrist and taking medication for ptsd, manic depression, social anxiety and sleeping meds for over 19 years. I worked for a company for 19. Tempted several times to kill my. In the past, I had to go the adults psych hospital twice. I’m at a point where it got so bad, the company let me go. They did accommodate as much as they can. Ultimately it effected my performance and out of work using pto and because I just can’t get out of bed. I couldn’t focus at work, I run into a wall in the middle of speaking to clients or family & friends, so my doctor prescribe vyvance to help me focus but it wasn’t working. I cry all the time and lash out at times. Should I apply for SSDI ?
Thank you kindly,

Hi Kate,

You may qualify. I'd look over the Blue Book listing (ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/12.00-MentalDisorders-Adult.htm#12_04) with your doctor to see if you medically quality. Best of luck!

I have been diagnosed with Anxiety, OCD, add, and depression. My anxiety affects me every day and when I work, especially when it's a stressful environment or situation. My anxiety rises around alot of people and when I get frustrated. My depression is not as bad as it used to be but I still get very depressed.

Hi Ashley,

It may be possible to receive disability benefits if you meet the blue book listing for mental disorders: https://www.ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/112.00-MentalDisorders-Childhood.htm. If you apply for SSI there will also be income limits you will have to meet.
