I became disabled in October of 2010 and applied for SSDI. I have been treated by my doctor every week since then and have retained an attorney for my SSDI process.
I have been paying in to the Social Security system for 38 years and am 55 years old. I had been at my last job for 20 years until I had to retire in June 2012 due to my disability.
During my hearing the judge asked the Vocational Expert if I would be able to do full time work in my present position and she told the judge that I would not be able to. The judge then asked I would be able to do full time work in any position and the VE answered no, that I would not.
My doctor also provided paperwork that stated that I have a total disability and could not do any work. I also provided a letter from my former boss who I worked directly for the entire 20 years stating that I was a dependable and dedicated employee until I started missing a lot of days during the summer of 2010 due to the start up of my disability.
I just found out that my case is with a Decision Writer and would be turning the case back over to the judge in a couple of weeks.
My question is, with my work history, age, doctors treatment and findings of the Vocational Expert, what would be my chances of being rewarded benefits?

My disability file went to the VSU unit Dec 8, 2017. It says it will take 4 wks or less for a decision. As of Feb 3,2018 I have heard nothing. Is there a way to check the status? Thank you!

Hi Bert,
You should receive a decision letter about your case in the near future. Hang in there!
It is now well over 100 days since my hearing. I have yet to see an update. It's been with the writing department unassigned for awhile now. Very frustrated.

Hi there,
I'm sorry to hear about that! Disability appeals generally take about 17 months on average before an ALJ hearing.

UPDATE: Had lawyer call ALJ office 3 weeks ago and was told a decision was made and was waiting to be signed off. I logged into ssa site on 2-16 and it was finally updated to Appeal Under Review
A medical decision has been made and we are working to process your decision.
So I took a chance and called my local SS office this morn' to speak with someone and was verbally told a favorable decision was made and a letter dated for 2-22 will be going out this week and payment nfo will follow. I smiled but will not get excited til letter this "favorable" letter hit my mailbox. Almost 4 years of waiting and still counting!! #fingerscrossed

Hi There,
Thanks for sharing! Wishing you nothing but the best.
Had my hearing July 2017. It has been 7 months since my hearing and I still have no news. It has been waiting to be assigned to a decision writer for 4 months. I call and talk to the office and they simply say it's normal for it to take this long to have a decision writer take the case. When I had my hearing both my lawyer and the judge said it has been taking about 3 months to receive an answer but apparently not. I'm mostly just frustrated about all of this. Plus my ssa account online hasn't changed from post-hearing review, yet my lawyer and the ssa office can tell that it's waiting on a decision writer. Why don't they have a more up to date system that allows me to see real time data on my case, like my lawyer can? This entire system is a mess and seriously needs changed and updated. I honestly don't know how my hearing went, but after a bone and joint infection in my pelvis I cannot stand, walk, or sit for more than an hour or two. I have to frequently lay down, which is why there aren't any jobs I can do. I hate not being able to work and my college degree is pointless now. I just got a bill for $24,000 because the rest of my student loans went to debt collectors and I just don't know what to do about it. I'm feeling quite defeated.
