Qualifying children

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?

Hi my son's father was just approved for SSDI, and received a lump sum payment. I am wondering, if my son will be eligible for payments? His father currently owes me $10,000 in back pay for child support. I'm wondering, if I will receive back pay from the time he received his eligibility letter? I just applied in July for SSDI for my son?

Hi there,
Your son may be eligible for benefits based on his father's work record, however I really couldn't say if he would receive back pay.

My daughter was born with hip dysplasia and with three months of treatment in a harness, her hips had improved and she got cleared medically. She's now ten months old, not crawling, and her latest check-up showed hip issues and they have ordered physical therapy for her. If she qualifies for benefits, will they backpay from birth?? or only from time of benefit application?

HI there,
You may be eligible for back pay from the time that she has been disabled, so yes, your child may be eligible for back pay from birth.
