Qualifying children

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?

When both of my parents passes. They made a will and my cousin wasn't on it. But they raised her since she was 5 months old. Her real parent didn't want them to adopt her. But they could raise her. The real parents didn't give Mom and Dad anything for caring for her. My parents didn't get a lawyer. So now my siblings doesn't think she get anything when our parents passes?

Hi Linda,
I really could not say for sure as we are not experts in estate law, but your cousin may be eligible to receive an inheritance from your parents. In addition, even if they were not eligible on their own, your parents would be able to specify your cousin in the will.

I have a dependent child that I receive benefits for on my SSDI. I received a form that I am supposed to file annually to report how the funds were used. Is there a website that I can file that electronically? I have misplaced the form. Is there a place to download a copy?

I have Gaurdianship of my nephew who is 13yrs old. He was taken away from the state of Illinois in 2015 and placed with me his Aunt. When she receives her disibility payments and back pay for him as well under auxiliary, can I take her to child support court or do I just go to SSA office and show the paperwork of Gaurdianship appointed to me? Thanks

My husband was approved for disability in 2012 but we didn't know to apply for his stepdaughter which is my daughter. We recently applied & she was approved for back pay as well. How long will it take to receive the back pay for her

Hi Wanda,

Your daughter may be eligible to receive backpay off of his SSD. Unfortunately it is not always black and white since cases vary. I would recommend speaking to someone in the SSA at 1-800-772-1213.

Best of Luck,
Eric

Hi there,
I'm sorry for your loss. If the father was receiving SSI benefits, then your son may not be eligible for benefits based off of the father's record as survivor's benefits are based off of work record.

I started receiving benefits in Feb 2017 but I didn't know about my children being able to receive benefits until today. Will they receive back from the time I applied?
