Waiting for decision

I became disabled in October of 2010 and applied for SSDI. I have been treated by my doctor every week since then and have retained an attorney for my SSDI process.

I have been paying in to the Social Security system for 38 years and am 55 years old. I had been at my last job for 20 years until I had to retire in June 2012 due to my disability.

During my hearing the judge asked the Vocational Expert if I would be able to do full time work in my present position and she told the judge that I would not be able to. The judge then asked I would be able to do full time work in any position and the VE answered no, that I would not.

My doctor also provided paperwork that stated that I have a total disability and could not do any work. I also provided a letter from my former boss who I worked directly for the entire 20 years stating that I was a dependable and dedicated employee until I started missing a lot of days during the summer of 2010 due to the start up of my disability.

I just found out that my case is with a Decision Writer and would be turning the case back over to the judge in a couple of weeks.

My question is, with my work history, age, doctors treatment and findings of the Vocational Expert, what would be my chances of being rewarded benefits?

I had my disability hearing September 22, 2016. The judge gave the attorney an extra 2 weeks for a copy of a document to be sent to the judge. A decision was made on October 11, 2016.--It is still in pending writing decision. It's been so long. Could this be a denial?

Hi Janet,
I really could not say as we have no information about a particular claim, however you may want to speak with your lawyer, they may have more information about your specific case.

How can I find out the judges decision without waiting on the letter to come in the mail? Or how can I find out how much are my benefits and will I receive my first check when everyone else receive theirs on the up coming first?

Benefit Application Under Review

A medical decision has been made and we are working to process your benefit application. A Social Security Representative may contact you directly if we need any additional documents or information. Can you tell me if this is an approval or a denial please?

Hi Jodi,
I cannot, as that status only means that they have made a medical decision. Additionally, we are not affiliated with the SSA nor with the federal government.

Hi there,
I really could not say, however if you have a sufficient work record and documentation of your conditions, you stand a higher chance of being approved.

When I applied for disability in 1995 I was lucky enough to have a mother who helped me gather all my medical records and make an appointment to present the information. I was making around 100k at the time I developed Lupus. It is critical that your have tax records, proof from current employer, everything that you can think of to prove your case. I was a single parent and loved the job I could no longer do. I too waited for months without any decision and one day I called to check on the status and the young man said "you sound upset." I said the process is driving me to the point of considering suicide. I did not mean that only expressed my feelings. Magically the next week I received a letter saying I had been approved. I recommend you call every time you think about it. My case required no lawyer who gets all the months not paid from the time you filed. I was sent for a physiological evaluation during this process which is not unusual and if it is something your attorney has not already requested you might want to ask about having it done as part of your record. It was not an in depth evaluation and lasted 5 minutes. My prayers to all of you waiting on this difficult and time consuming process. Stress does not help us fight illness. There are alternatives to attorneys called patient advocates. I would be glad to share the info.

Hi there,
Thank you for sharing your story! It's true that it's best to have extensive medical and financial records when applying for disability.

My disability advocate told me the judge has made her decision and it is at the decision writer, apparently as of 02/16/17 the decision writer is in the process of writing it. Any idea how long that usually takes? My hearing was 11/14/16.
