Qualifying children

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I have children and their father has recently went for a hearing is waiting on a decision. I was told that the kids will qualify for benefits. I have several questions.
How is the amount determined?
What are the rules for the cutoff age to recieve benefits?
Do the children recieve back pay as well?
What steps if any do I need to take to set up their case?
If a child is 18 but still in high school do they qualify, and for how long?

Hi Nikki,
Back pay is awarded when someone was eligible for benefits but was not awarded them. Your step-son may not be eligible for back pay in that case.

HI Terri,
If your children were on the application at the time you had applied, then they may be eligible for back pay.

Hi Crystal,
I could not say for sure if your child will receive back pay, as we are not affiliated with the SSA or the federal government and we do not have access to the information needed to make that determination.

I applied for auxiliary benefits for my daughter since her father gets ssdi. Was told it was sent to the payment center. How long does it take for her to receive her payments?

My mom got approved for disability and I am suppose to get a monthly check starting January. In the letter it says she will receive back pay and how much she will get but does not say anything about me. Will I get back pay as well?

Hi there,
I cannot say for sure as we are not affiliated with the SSA or the federal government, but you may be eligible for back pay if you were eligible for benefits.

Hi Mindy,
We are not experts in custody law, you may want to contact social services in your state for clarification of what their policies are.

I am raising my niece who is getting payments every month from my brother passing away. He was also disabled before he passed away . I got guardianship of her due to her mother being abusive. Her mother is on disability. Am I entitled to collect money from her mothers disability as well?
