SSDI length of time for back pay?

When I initially met with my attorney, I was told that back pay would go back one year from application, minus 5 months (I had already waited over 2 years to file because I was told I would have "full recovery" after my 2 fusion surgeries). I've received my acceptance letter but not my back pay yet, and during my search for more info on the process I came across a SSDI page stating that even if it takes 24 months for your claim to get approved, you can only receive pay for 12 months. Can anybody help clarify this for me please? Also, I have friends who received their back pay before or immediately after their approval letters (NY), but I've seen posts by people saying it took several months so I was wondering if there was a formula for when I can expect mine? I'm not looking to go on a spending spree, but I have a mortgage, car payment, property and school taxes, and children to feed and clothe as well as one in an expensive college. Hello..
My Fiance receives SSDI for about 3 years now.
We have two children age 11 and 5 months.
I told him to put the kids under his SSDI, just in case something happens to him in the future.
My question is, would my children get back pay from the time he applied for his benefits ? or from the time he started receiving his benefits?
Or do they get back pay since the time he requested for them to be added to his SSDI ,or just start getting regular checks monthly with no back payment.
Please excuse all of my and's also my Or's .

Your children would get backpay from the time he applied for benefits.

I started receiving my SSDI in Oct 2016 I was told id receive back pay but haven't yet its been 7 mo how long does it take

That seems like it is taking longer than usual. I would contact a representative from the SSA to see if there is any update with your case.

Hi Scott,

Some people who get Social Security must pay federal income taxes on their benefits. But, no one pays taxes on more than 85 percent of their Social Security benefits.

I was approved for SSDI inAugust, 2016. The judge awarded the disability back to August, 2011. I received 3 SS settlement checks for back pay. My son also received a lump sum check of about $17,000, more than I received total. I am still waiting for the remaining, lump sum of back pay from SSDI. It has been 9 months and I get a different answer every time I talk to the main office on the SS website. I've been told that it's a large amount and they are still figuring it out. Can you tell me what might be going on and what to do? I really need this money to find a place to live and get on with my life as well as some expensive dental work I've had to put off for 5 years. Thank you

Hi James,
I really could not say, however they generally give back pay for the time that you need to wait for benefits if you are determined to be disabled.

little confused on the ssi and ssd, my ssd is approved but the ssi is still pending if get approved for that will I also get back pay on that as well ? Thanks

when I applied I was working part time very little hrs., my lawyer told ssd so they know I was working. I guess I make so little ssd does not even count it as income. I found out I was approved, but my job is getting really stressful, my boss is giving me a hard time because I can't move as fast due to my disability with ssd not even counted it as income. will it be ok if I put in my 2 weeks notice. I have a feeling I'm going to get fired or they will let me go because having a hard time doing my job. I have been working since I have been 15 and never ever been fired from a job. I'm grateful I was approved but also kinda depressing I can't do what I once use too. I have never been fired from a job and I just turned 54 yrs old. I just do not want SSD I quit just because I was approved. I will miss working doing for so long but just can't do it anymore because in so much pain and now my boss on me all the time, I just can't deal with the stress, makes me feel more worthless then I already do.
