A hip replacement is usually done to solve a problem that makes a person unable to walk but sometimes even after a hip replacement it can be so difficult to walk, sit, or stand that a person can’t work. If they find that you can’t do any other kind of work then you will qualify for disability benefits.

To submit a claim for disability benefits because of a hip replacement you will need to download an RFC form from the SSA website and give it to your doctor. The doctor has to answer the questions on the form and give a detailed explanation of your condition and the way that your condition makes it impossible for you to work. If the SSA finds that your existing skills won’t transfer to another kind of job they will declare you eligible for disability benefits. For example, if you have been working for eight years in a daycare center and your job requires that you be able to move, run, and be on your feet for long periods of time but you can’t stay on your feet or move easily because of the hip replacement you can be eligible for disability benefits.
